BNL Soccer: A Summer of Hard Work, Mentorship, and First-Time Experiences

Record-Breaking Summer Soccer Camp The highlight of the community calendar was the BNL Summer Soccer Camp, run in partnership with both the boys’ and girls’ high school teams. A record 78 youth players registered; an impressive turnout that showed the growing excitement around BNL soccer. More than 30 high school players stepped up as mentors, leading drills, encouraging younger athletes, and modeling the habits that define the program.

The atmosphere was pure energy. Fields rang with yelling and laughter from start to finish as kids competed, learned, and simply enjoyed the game. The combination of high school mentors and enthusiastic young players created a vibrant, supportive environment that left everyone smiling.

None of it would have been possible without key community partners. North Lawrence Stars Soccer and Orbit FC (orbitfc.org) Leagues contributed essential supplies, including additional goals that were borrowed for the camp. Their support helped turn a idea into a successful reality!

Historic Trip to Purdue Fort Wayne In another first for the program, 24 BNL players traveled to Purdue University Fort Wayne for a four-day team camp. It marked the first time the boys’ team had attended this event. Players received high-level instruction from college and professional coaches while competing in multiple friendly scrimmages against teams from Indiana and Illinois. With more than 20 clubs in attendance, the camp offered valuable competitive experience and exposure that will pay dividends in the coming season. the players bonded and created memories like smoking up the rooms cooking steaks, becoming the key master and locking your roomates out of the room :), and many of them broke through personal boundaries during the scrimmages.
